Reverse Dictionary?

So writing my last post, I wanted to put some useful labels on it.  Became rather distraught upon realising: I didn't know a word which meant "the name of the seemingly epic epiphany one has when under the influence of alcohol".  I can look up a word in the dictionary and see what it means, but there doesn't appear to be an easy way to describe something and find a word for it.

Anyway, my searches on google didn't find it.  I'm stuck thinking up a decent word to sum it all up to, which i would really like as it would make a great tag for a number of posts to come.

Storage/Delivery service for a night out

So went out drinking last night and came up with those amazing ideas you have when drinking.  I'm sure I had a lot more than I can remember, but figured those I can remember should be written down for future generations to appreciate.

So because we decided to go into town, ended up leaving my bag and some alcohol we had behind at mates place.  Now sitting here this morning realising that I now need to go back and get my stuff.  What could make this easier?  Let's examine:

Night after drinking, feel a little bleh, not keen on riding on trains to reclaim 'luggage'
The reason it's there is that I couldn't feasibly take it out last night.  Once seperated, very difficult to get it back.

So I thought, wouldn't it be great if there was some kind of extra baggage service offered.  Some 24 service running that would act as storage/delivery.  So I go to the valley, and I put all my stuff in a box that I get the key/combination for, similar to safety deposit box i guess.

So now the next day is here, I call the service, and they have scheduled drop offs to a location of my choosing.  Pay a CC fee up front to get them to bring it out to you (in addition to storage fee) and you open box and sign out contents, give them back box.  If you are some dodgy who manages to call for someone else's box, you won't be able to open it and you have payed for their trouble up front.  So we have sort of a delivery service like UPS, you sign out your stuff.

Now because Sunday morning would involve a large number of deliveries, they could bulk dispatch.  They would have cheaper deliveries, maybe once a day, but you could pay extra if you desperately needed something now.  The idea is it would be cheaper than a cab fare and less bother than public transport and more legal than trying to drive somewhere while still under the influence.  The deliveries would be in daylight hours as well, so would be a normal hours kind of service, safer and cheaper.

As a bonus they could bring you some breakfast... i'm craving it right now.

I got guitar hero!

So after my rant the other day, I wandered down to the shopping center and discovered that EB had guitar hero world tour 360  in stock!  Obviously over priced, but took this as a sign that everyone had stock so ran up to kmart.  Still no stock there though :(  Wandered back down to EB to have a look just to see if I had imagined it.  It was there, but no prices.  Waited to ask the guy at the counter how much.

"Can I help you mate?"
"Just wondering how much xbox360 guitar hero world tour complete bundle costs?"
"Hang on. " type type type "It's $330"
"..."
"...But we'll price match"
"Well, kmart's selling it for $280"
"Ah... yup I can do it for that"

Hurrah!  that was a lot easier than i would expect.  So I say I also need an xbox and so point at the package they had.  The guy and now manager that have appeared start preparing the xbox (had to find one of the bundled games).  Finally they get it all together, and the original guy rings it up on the register while the manager is next to him doing something else.  need some dialog specs for this one.  I'm I, Manager is M, other dude is D

D "So that's $280 for Guitar Hero..."
M "$280! where did you get that from?"
D "Kmart"
M "No, we're not matching with Kmart, they've got no stock"
I "Well Big W has it for that price as well"
M "They've got no stock either." some rant he goes on then saying that they broke some WOW street date and so now they aren't getting any guitar hero stock. "JB Hifi has it for $290, I can do that for you. It's only $10 more"
I "Well Dick Smith is doing it for $280 as well!"
M to D "Ok, well ring Dick Smith and see if they have any stock"
M now gets interrupted by another customer who wants some help
D to I "Do you know the number for Dick Smith?"
I "no"
D looks to check M is busy
D "It's fine mate I'll do it for $280"

So glad I ended up getting it for the price I was originally told I could get it for.  Was quite unimpressed with the manager waiting till I'd picked everything out, and then trying to bump up the price.  If it's 'only $10' higher, why don't they swallow that and honour the original price quoted to the customer.  Ah well, thankfully the non-manager wasn't a dick.

So i've been playing the game the last week and it's much fun.  The drums are frustrating though, the symbols are just to unresponsive.  Need to order the USB tuning device so I can up the sensitivity.

First Post/ I want Guitar hero, but EB? Do not want!

So this is partly a test to see if i've set up a blog correctly and check how the view works.  I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times though so will probably just have to leave it for a day or so rather than obsess over colours and layouts and what not now.

Mainly, I've just set up a blog because I needed a place to rant. Something obviously on my mind now since it inspired me to sign up, so here starts the dribble:

1. I love Guitar Hero, am really keen to pick up the latest World Tour game after seeing great reviews.  Can't really justify buying it for my ps2 though, so figured I would buy an xbox360 (they are now cheaper than wii and much much cheaper than ps3) and get world tour for that.

Turns out there is no stock left anywhere.  I get that this stuff happens.  What is particularly frustrating is that I can't find out why there is no stock.  There are heaps of copies for wii, ps2 and ps3 available, but all xbox versions are sold out everywhere in brisbane.  Googling the last few days has given no results, so this blog gives me a chance to ask the questions no one else on the net seems to be asking: Why is there no stock of Guitar Hero World Tour for Xbox availble!?

2. In looking for the game, I have been checking a lot of stores, and as such have been exposed to EB games of late.  Apparently there is little love for this company from other posts I've seen, yet everybody shops there.  The crux is this:
* there sticker price on games seems to be about 20% higher than anywhere else.  For instance every other place has World Tour for sale at around $280.  EB sticker price stays at $330.
* they 'price match', so if another store has it cheaper you can get that price there
* they only price match if the store is nearby and has the item in stock.

My issue with this is that EB is making you do all the hard work and they reap the benefits.  What every other store does is compete by lowering their sticker price.  If the store across the road from you drops its prices, your store will lose customers if you don't lower yours accordingly.  EB doesn't do this, and let's you do the running around to find the most competitive price and bring it to their attention.  Then if the lower price is offered by a nearby store that has it in stock (you actually have a choice and could by it somewhere else) they give you lower price.  Otherwise, there is no competition (you can't feasibly buy it somewhere else) so they charge the higher price.  Feels a lot like profiteering, but they've set it up in reverse.

I got lost down the rabbit hole on wikipedia a while back and came across some interesting articles on ethics/morality.  One of the things I found was philosophical imperitives that seem to derive from the Golden rule.  Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categorical_imperative#The_first_formulation_.28Or_First_Maxim.29

There is a concept of "Perfect Duty" that says if you were to apply something as right in your moral system, you must universalize this and say it would be right for everyone to do this.  The example given is:

The moral proposition A: "It is permissible to steal" would result in a contradiction in conceivability. The notion of stealing presupposes the existence of property, but were A universalized, then there could be no property, and so the proposition has logically negated itself.

So the point I'm getting at?  EB has high prices, but matches those with lower prices (and in stock).  So do we say this is right or wrong?  if it is right, then we say that all stores would be right to do this, but in that case all stores would have the high sticker price, and there would be no stores offering the lower price against which to match.  I'd say this  system is thus unsustainable.  I know there's a lot of flaws to be found in this argument, but that's the best way I can articulate my underlying distaste for their system.

Here endeth the rant
